講義概要

Sociolinguists study the relationship between social factors and language use. They are interested in questions such as the following: (1) How does language influence culture? Or,how does culture influence language? (2) How is a dialect different from a language? (3) How is politeness expressed through language? (4) Are some dialects or languages better than other dialects or languages? (5) Do men and women use language differently? If so,why? (6) Do people from different social classes speak differently? If so,in what ways? In this course we will discuss these and other such questions.
