Seminar of Life in Modern Britain. In this final year, students will continue their study into the culture of the British Isles. Students will also be taught the various types of dissertation they could select for their graduation thesis.
【指導方針概要】
In this seminar we will examine many aspects of Modern Britain. Topics of study could include: fashion, art & film, comedy & humour, law, politics, regional languages/dialects, current societal problems etc. Students will learn new vocabulary, listen to short recordings or read short texts on the topics and then discuss important issues.
An important component for this final year of study will be the dissertation. Students will be guided through the process step by step. Students will experience: selecting a topic, refining a research question, laying out an action plan/research plan, drafting a literature review, examining sources on the internet or in books, discussing their findings via presentation, and creating reference lists following the latest academic style.

【学生に対する希望事項】
A main goal of this seminar is to give students an opportunity to develop and practice their English skills (Reading, writing, speaking, listening). The course will be conducted in English and students will read a mixture or real English texts as well as level-appropriate texts. Homework will involve reading, researching and preparing speeches. Students will be asked to discuss and give speeches in English. Students will also write their final report (thesis) in English.
