Remediation and Advancement of Communicative English

指導方針概要

Remediation and advancement of English skills are largely conducted simultaneously, for both mutually help to advance and reinforce skills. Furthermore skills are never perfectly learned; but rather learned in degrees or levels. So they often require practice and reinforcement. The early part of this course, then will be more focused、though not exclusively, on remediation. This means confining grammar to basic forms, so the student can focus more easily on vocabulary and spoken fluency. The four skills--reading, writing, speaking, listening are amply use throughout the course for their mutually reinforcing potential.
In the first year students aim on improving their fluency for spoken English in practical situations、with the other three skill areas practiced in support. Students make several major presentations or speeches in a semester on personally appealing topics. Each presentation builds on several or more weeks of related practice: everyday conversational dialogues practiced in pairs, informational gap games for application, as well as listening and reading exercises. Similarly during the second year, instruction continues to target the four skills with primacy given to oral communication. Students work to improve their presentation skills particularly using standard organizational patterns. And from the start of the year and concurrently to the weekly classes, students choose a graduation project topic, research the topic, and write an academic project paper in standard form.
