講義概要

American studies concerns the society and culture of the United States of America. This course emphasizes the study of comparative culture, primarily Japan versus the United States and other countries. Without self-awareness about the impact of one's own culture on self, then hardly can one fully appreciate other cultures. So expect a focus on Japanese studies in preparation for making cross-cultural comparisons. Early an emphasis is placed on developing self-awareness for Japanese culture, presumably the student's home or primary culture. Throughout America, Australia, UK will be in the drop back, providing points of comparison and ultimate destinations. Instruction takes a problem-solving approach while using lecture or readings, singularly or in combination, with task-based exercises to aid comprehension and skill development.
