講義概要

Culture and communication are believed inseparable: Both have a code of rules that must be followed to be considered a native. Knowledge of these codes enables a second-language learner to become bicultural or bilingual. At the very least, intercultural training can help a visitor abroad make his or her trip a satisfying one whether for business, study,or pleasure. And for that reason the field of intercultural communication was born.

The course focuses on culture and communication, particularly factors of communication that influence intercultural relations. Practice is made in cultural analysis of related images and codes as found in the mass media, such as newspaper journalism, film, and advertising. Other case studies are made in application to develop the principles of intercultural communication. The ultimate purpose is to enhance one's discourse competence for using English.
