Seminar in American Culture and Sociolinguistics. In this seminar we will study some topics about American culture and other topic about Sociolinguistics .
【指導方針概要】
In this seminar we will explore together some topics in the areas of American culture and sociolinguistics. At the beginning of each semester we will choose a new topic together, so the choice of topic will depend on students' interests. Topics about American culture could include, for example, Native Americans, Black Americans, American music, religion in America and so on. Sociolinguistics topics could include, for example, language and gender, language and culture, bilingualism, dialects, English as an International Language, and so on. I will provide readings about the topics and students will take turns making short presentations. There will be some group discussion and/or class discussion every week. Students will write a research paper on a topic of their choice at the end of the seminar.

【学生に対する希望事項】
One purpose of this seminar is to help students develop and improve their English skills. The course will be entirely in English. There will be discussion every week and many reading assignments. Only students who are willing and able to participate in English should take this seminar.
